Has Everything Changed?

Not everything has changed in China. The park around Daming Lake in Jinan had not changed much between 1991 and 1999. It still had the same amusement park, the same poem by Chairman Mao on the wall near the entrance and the same decrepit MIG fighter on display.
The college campuses have a few new buildings, but they haven't changed that much. The students still play soccer on the same dirt field.
The people of China haven't really changed either. They dress in nicer clothes, live in nicer apartments, ride nicer bicycles, etc. But inside they are still the same people. Has all this change in China made them happier?
